Do I need to have a certain level of fitness?
Yes. Your fitness level will significantly affect the enjoyment of your trip. This will also affect all of the others on the trip. We want you to feel comfortable, confident & have a good experience. We have provided some guidance here. And/or give us a call and we can help you!
How can I prepare?
Let us know if you need help in setting up a simple training plan for your hike. We are here for you!
What if I need to cancel my trip?
We understand that things happen. If you decide to cancel your trip, the following fees apply and are due to GRO at the time (prior to departure) that GRO receives written notice of your cancellation:
30 or more days before departure date: $0
15 to 29 days before departure date: 50% of total trip cost
0 to 14 days before departure date: 100% of total trip cost
You may apply the cost of the trip to another trip that is the same or lesser value.
What is the 'mindfulness plan'?
We have collaborated with a local artist and created a BeBeads bracelet for you to use as a meditation tool during and after your journey. In addition, you will receive some guidance to start a simple meditation practice a month before your trip.
Will the Vermont trail be busy?
Note that these hikes are Wed-Fri. This is to maximize solitude on a popular part of the Green Mountain National Forest. An added bonus is that when you get home you have the weekend to rest, recover & bask.
Can I bring my own gear?
Yes, absolutely - if you have gear you know you love, you can use it. However, it is essential you make sure it is all in good working order (i.e., free of holes, effective water proofing) & you have all the parts (i.e., tent poles, etc.).
What if the weather is bad?
Trips will run rain or shine. If the weather is dangerous (i.e., severe thunder storm, excessively strong winds) we will either cancel the trip or change itinerary. All hikes are subject to change in itinerary due to weather or if it is determined by the guide to be preferable or a more safe & enjoyable experience.
What about the social-emotional aspect of trips?
We encourage and expect kindness and respectfulness from everyone. We will support all hikers to find this within themselves. While we will have times of conversation, we encourage and value times of silence on the drive and the trail - there is a freedom that can come with no pressure to make conversation - and a freedom to feel any way that you feel and not have to talk about it. While hiking, we practice noticing the vast spaciousness of nature - and find the fullness that is there for us all.
